How do you accrue pension?

You accrue pension in three ways

1. AOW: you receive this pension from the government. You can read more about the AOW on the website of the Sociale Verzekeringsbank.

2. Pension with PPF APG. You build up this pension via your employer.

3. Pension that you arrange yourself. For example with a life insurance or bank savings.

These three ways are called the ‘three pillars’. Read more about the three pillars (Dutch)

Premium scheme

With PPF APG you and your employer pay a contribution every month. Part of the contributions that you as an employee pay together with your employer end up in your personal pension pot. Plus the return on investments. Your final pension income depends on the contributions paid and the return on investment. This is called a premium scheme. On your retirement date, we convert the money from your pension pot into a monthly pension. You will receive this pension for as long as you live.

Good to know: Your pension is recalculated every year and can therefore change. You can find more information here. (Dutch)

Treshold amount

When building up pension, we take into account that everyone will receive AOW. Therefore you do not accrue pension over your entire gross salary. This threshold amount is also known as the deductible.

The threshold amount in 2025 is € 18.475.

This 'threshold amount' is approximately equal to the AOW (state pension) payment that you will receive from the government as of your state pension age.

What choices do you have?

Value transfer

Have you accrued pension elsewhere? You can transfer your previously accrued pension to PPF APG.

Exchange retirement pension for surviving dependents’ pension

Would you like to exchange (part of your) retirement pension for extra surviving dependents’ pension for your partner? You can do that when you retire. You then use part of your personal pension assets. This way you ensure that your partner receives a surviving dependents’ pension if you die after you have retired.

Exchanging surviving dependents’ pension for retirement pension

We assume by default that you opt for a surviving dependents’ pension if you have a partner. For the amount of the surviving dependents’ pension, we assume 70% of your retirement pension. You can choose to convert (partially) the surviving dependent's pension into an retirement pension for yourself. Your partner will then receive less or no surviving dependent's pension when he dies. You can choose this when you retire.

Did you accrue pension with PPF APG before January 1, 2025

How certain is your pension?

Risk

The amount of your pension upon retirement is not fixed. The amount of your pension assets and the pension you ultimately receive depends on the investment results. We do our best to grow your pension assets. But there are also risks. The pension pot can also decrease. We use buffers to prevent your (expected) pension from immediately being decreased.

If you log in here you can see how your pension pot changes with the economy. (Dutch)

Wage

We try to grow your pension pot every year. This is only possible if the financial situation of PPF APG is good enough. Below you can see how we have increased the pensions for participants until January 1, 2025:

** The pensions were increased until January 1, 2025. In this way we ensure that pensions grow as much as possible with price increases or wage increases. From January 1, 2025, the increase in your pension assets will depend on the investment results.

Increasing or decreasing your pension

Your pension moves with the economy. As a result, your pension may fluctuate. Your pension may therefore become higher or lower. We do our best to keep your pension as stable as possible. Agreements have been made about how we do this.
